Welcome to Mastini di Aitana.
We are dedicated to breeding the best specimens, as much for companion as for
show. We are in search of the best Neapolitan Mastiffs that a dog of this breed can
offer in temperament, beauty and structure. We’re at the very beginning of our
pursuit. Our goal is to create for quality, not quantity. At this time we are acquiring
the best specimens that the Mastino World offers. The Mastini that we have selected
are those that please us, since they are our pets first and not just our business.
HISTORY:
The ancestors of the Mastino Napolitano were bred for war. They accompanied
Alexander the Great in his conquests for territory to build his empire in 356 BCE.
The Mastino Napoletano appears for the first time in Italy in 1946. There is
information of their existence in the United States from 1970.
Today, this powerful breed has deservedly gained its reputation to be an extraordinary
guardian for the family and property.
In the U.S. we call this breed “Neapolitan Mastiff”. We use the abbreviation “Neo”
when talking about them. But the true Mastinari (breeder connoisseurs) prefer the
name Mastino Napoletano as it is used in Italy. Mastino Napoletano is used anywhere
in the world.
Mastini is plural for Mastino.
The Neapolitan Mastiff was admitted to the AKC as part of the “Working Group”
July 1, 2004.
